Four things every small business owner should know
A company registration is not brand protection
Registering with the Kosovo Business Registration Agency (KBRA/ARBK) gives you a legal entity and a fiscal number. It does not stop another company from using a confusingly similar name, logo or slogan. Exclusive rights come only from a trademark registered with the Industrial Property Agency (IPA).
Kosovo is first-to-file
The first person to file owns the right. Years of trading under a name give you very little if a competitor files it first — you then negotiate, oppose or rebrand, all far more expensive than filing early.
An EU trade mark does not cover Kosovo
Kosovo is not in the EU trade mark system. If you trade here, you need a national Kosovo filing, even if you already hold an EUTM or a WIPO international registration.
Small budgets, small scope — that is fine
A one-class registration at €250 covering your core activity is far better than no registration. You can file additional classes later as the business grows; you cannot recover a name someone else has already registered.

Is a trademark worth it for a micro business in Kosovo?
